PARALEGAL

Being a paralegal means that you strive to allow others the opportunity to experience justice. As a paralegal, you're working to help those in need. You can be proud to know that you have chosen a career that allows you to stand firm and make changes.

Now days even more people are in need of legal representation in cases such as intellectual property, health care, eldercare, sexual harassment, and environmental law than in the past.

The public stresses justice for all as a mandatory requirement, which is why the legal profession comes to the aid of anyone seeking help for people that are rich or poor. For this reason of changes being made, paralegals are expected to be in more of a demand in the future.

As of now, and expected for the future as well, private law firms lead the employment of paralegals. However, paralegals work for several places including corporate legal departments, insurance companies, real estate and title insurance firms, and banks.

Paralegals can also find many career opportunities in the public division where they will come to the aid of the poor, the elderly, and the low and middle-income families and to all races, including minorities. You can count on federal, state and local government agencies and the courts to keep on hiring paralegals in greater numbers.

Paralegals are rewarded in their careers when they accomplish their goal in helping a person in need. The paralegal can play an instrumental role in providing quality legal services to all segments of our society but cannot give legal advice nor represent a client in court.

Our Legal Assistant/Paralegal Program here at Pioneer Pacific will ready graduates for a stellar career in the legal field.

Any persons desiring to earn their Legal Assistant/Paralegal AAS will need to complete 7 terms, which is 70 academic weeks.

Available at Wilsonville and Clackamas: The purpose of the Legal Assistant/Paralegal AAS is to prepare the graduates for a stimulating career in the legal field. Students receive an inclusive training; preparing them with the skills they need to find a position as a paralegal.

By utilizing a collection of lecture and lab, students will focus their education on legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Students gain the skills to draw up legal documents, write case briefs, organize case files, and perform legal research on the computer. Students also look exclusively into the ethical standards required of paralegals and attorneys.

Students also participate in an externship in addition to classroom and lab work. Students are given the opportunity to apply their education in a real-world environment with the support of instructors and counselors behind them through the last 180 hours of the program, which are spent in a legal setting.
