The exact goals of NWACCís Paralegal Studies Program are:
- Provide a program of the utmost quality to allow students to obtain a wide-spread knowledge of the legal field. They will also develop technical knowledge and specific skills that will ready them for a career in the paralegal field.
- Offer the students a well rounded general education that will enhance their communication skills and allow them to obtain a greater awareness of cultural perspectives.
- Developing higher order thinking skills, an intellectual curiousity, and an appreciation for lifelong learning is one of the objectives.
- This program is attentive to the needs of the community and has an emphasis on helping graduates find fulfilling employment in various work environments, post graduation.
- Make students aware of the legal profession's ethical principles and concerns, provide them with a healthy respect for the profession's historical development and institutions and provide them with a belief in equal access to justice for everyone.
- Once the degree is completed, interested students are assisted in internship placements and finding high quality employment.
- Offer a program that facilitates the advancement of the paralegal profession in the local area as well as the state.
The specific goals are:
- Have a high benchmark for acceptance into and graduation from the program, and to give an overview to new students on working in the industry and the type of work done.
- Students are entailed to progress through a systematic and precise curriculum, together with universal education, law related, and legal specialty courses
- Programs are designed to competitively teach students in our specialty courses and will give them the best available technologies in order to gain cutting edge skills.
- Give importance to interpersonal and technology abilities and to provide many specialized law classes in a laboratory environment.
- Work with student on interviewing, resume writing skills, keeping in frequent contact with college placement directors, human resource directors of local corporations, law firms, and government agencies. Advise student on resume writing and interview skills and converse often with the college placement director and human resources directors of nearby law firms, government agencies and corporations.
- Be alert to the needs of the legal community through frequent communication with the local bar associations, the Advisory Committee and special focus groups.
