Paralegal Speciality Requirements
In order to achieve a paralegal specialty, the student must finish the Paralegal A.A. diploma or certification. Units for the specialty may come from the Paralegal A.A. degree or certificate requirements from the additional courses that are outlined below.
A student can earn a Paralegal Certificate if the student has previously completed an A.A. Associates of Art degree or a Bachelors of Arts degree before taking any courses applied to the Paralegal Certificate. Students are required to complete a total of 27 units. The required units are: BL 56, BL 100, BL 101, BL 103, BL 111, and a choice of BL 102, BL 113, BL 120, or BL171-174. You may take additional units from Section B to complete the 27 required units. All of the 27 units have to be taken at Cerritos College.
Before starting the certificate program, students are required to meet with the Paralegal or Counseling Department. You must have received an A on any business legal courses which were taken before completing requisite A. Unfortunately, as part of the certificate units, the degree can not be counted.
