The work of the paralegal has been acknowledged by the American Bar Association, state bars, and local bar associations as an vital step in helping the legal profession meet the rising demand for its services, and in providing these services more effectively and promptly. Law offices nowadays employ paralegals to do multiple tasks under the supervision of a licensed attorney.
Associate in Arts Degree and Major.
City College of San Francisco instructs pupils in a two-year curriculum of lessons in Paralegal/Legal Studies. The course of study has been created in a way where students can fulfill the needs required in order to graduate from the College. A student must complete all courses with a minimum of 2.00 grade average in order to receive an Associates degree in Art and a major in Paralegal/Legal Studies. Students who complete all courses in the Paralegal/Legal Studies Program with a "C" grade or better will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Achievement.
Admission. All students are eligible for enrollment that are admitted to City College of San Francisco and have met the requirements listed next to each course before enrollment in said course.
Area of Concentration and Study. The student will receive an education in how to do legal research, write legal briefs, understand law office protocol and training in many of the relevant issues of the day including the environment, intellectual property, realty, labor, medical, credit counseling.
Employment. Students who adequately complete the requirements of the curriculum can seek jobs as paralegals in law offices, government offices, and other businesses.
