Briarwood College
Enroll at Briarwood College Paralegal program
The Paralegal Program was created to educate and train laypersons to aid attorneys by performing substantive legal work under the supervision of a practicing attorney. Students are required to successfully complete a variety of legal specialty courses, becoming knowledgeable of our legal system, the basic areas of law, methods of legal research and writing, and legal reasoning. The formation of occupational competence is the major objective of the program. The program stresses comprehension and reasoning over rote learning. Strong emphasis is given on the ethical work role of the paralegal as well as the limitations on the practice of law by non-lawyers. A paralegal isn't allowed to give legal advice or appear in court to represent a client, and they are restricted by law in providing legal services directly to the public. An Associate Degree in Applied Science offers a Paralegal accreditation, which is approved by the American Bar Association
Career Information: Paralegals play vital roles in every law firm from twenty-lawyer firms to single lawyer firms. Graduates are allowed many different law firm positions, along with public and private sector law opportunities.
