Become a paralegal specialist at Miami Dade College
A paralegal, or legal assistant, is a qualified person (through training, work experience or education) under the direction of a lawyer or law entity, who performs work delegated by a lawyer, in a legal capacity.
Miami Dade College is proud to offer a Paralegal Studies Program that has an upstanding reputation with the legal community. Those who are interested can apply for transfer to a university to complete a four-year degree, after graduation.
Eighteen credits in general education courses and fifty credits in the legal assistant major are to be completed for enrolling in the Associate of Science Degree program. The program prepares its graduates to enter the paralegal profession. Theoretical law foundation is just one of the courses on offer; students undertaking this course will be required to apply paralegal skills in a practical workplace setting as part of their assignments.
Anyone wishing to work in the legal field can benefit from the program. The students body includes people from all walks of life. The majority of students have full-time jobs. Some students have already completed a degree whereas others have only prior college experience. Many of the students are upgrading their skills as they work in the field. Others enroll in this program to change career or explore an interest in the legal profession.
