Become a paralegal specialist at
Preparing students to be able to meet the threats posed by paralegals (legal assistants) in law firms, governmental entities and corporate legal departments is the basic aim of this program. Paralegals provide non-clerical professional support in the distribution of legal services to clients and the community while working under the supervision of attorneys. Being a paralegal does not give you a license to practice law. Upon completion of the paralegal program, you will have the skills necessary to effectively assist attorneys in nearly every area of legal matters, such as the investigation, research, discovery, and litigation processes.
You can specialize in the following areas:
- Estate and Guardianship Administration
- Corporations
- Real Estate
- Family Law
- Civil litigation or Criminal Litigation.
Legal Specialty courses are offered only at nighttime, and you should realize that every course isn't offered every semester. The program is directed from the Clearwater Campus, with most of the classes being held at the Caruth Health Center in Pinellas Park. The St.Petersburg College Paralegal Studies Program has been accepted by the American Bar Association. It is recommended that new students attend a special orientation held each session for new and interested students. Computer skills are necessary, in order to gain employment and should be obtained early in the program.
