Nearly every one will find that sometime in their life, they will require the services of an attorney to help them deal with a legal issue. Paralegals obtain, put in order, and explore information, such as research and composing legal memos. Most of the time, it is the legal assistant that represents the attorney in transactions with the clients.
The paralegal program provides a comprehensive foundation in the domestic, real estate, corporate and criminal areas of the law as well as helping to develop analytical, writing and computer skills:
- Areas of Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of law and ethics
- Overview of criminal and civil law, including state, federal, real property law, tort law, wills, trust and probate, Contract, and family law
- Legal research and writing techniques
Career Opportunities
As a paralegal, you may find yourself working in private law firms, corporate legal departments, insurance companies, real estate and title insurance companies and professional trade associations. There are many different kinds of legal jobs in public areas, such as working at the state attorneys' office, working with public defenders, working at a government agency, or working within the court system itself.
