Gain a successful career in the paralegal field
The goals of the program are achieved through meeting the following objectives:
- To give pupils a complete general education which is comprised of writing, formal thought, speech, humanities, social and traditional sciences, and that is organized in a way to promote pupils' logical reasoning and communication abilities.
- To discipline students concerning the aspects of the paralegal in the provision of legal services.
- To educate students to carry out legal and factual investigations and research utilizing both traditional and technology-based methods.
- To teach students about the inner workings of the court system, including civil, criminal, and administrative court, in both trial and appellate areas, as well as to teach them about alternative methods of solving disputes
- Students are instructed in actual situations, as well as how to handle legal procedures, and write legal documents used by state and federal institutions.
- To prepare students to adapt to ever-changing technological advances and to teach them to work effectively with the computer technology.
- To assist students in developing organizational skills critical to the successful operation of a law office, including: categorizing and organizing documents, scheduling, prioritizing work, managing time effectively, using relevant forms, and maintaining accurate billing data.
- . Enabling them to explore their interests and prepare for various career positions, students will be introduced to a wide range of specialties. These include: admiralty law, family law, corporate law, personal injury and medical malpractice, healthcare compliance, succession practice, and many more.
- To educate students on professional conduct standards for attorneys, their relevance to paralegal work, and the codes and canons of ethics for national paralegal organizations.
- To encourage students to be lifelong learners and develop themselves professionally, and to be a source of ongoing paralegal education for graduates and other people in the area's paralegal community.
The Tulane Paralegal Studies Program provides college credit. Established in 1979, the program was first awarded approval by the American Bar Association in 1981. It is still the oldest such approved programs in this area.
