Become a paralegal specialist at Eastern Michigan University

In the paralegal/legal assisting studies program, students have a chance to learn about the inner workings of the legal system while developing the necessary skills to work alongside and under the supervision of a lawyer (remember, paralegals are not allowed to practice law themselves). The attorneys who conduct our courses provide their students with the necessary skills for success in today's legal field. These skills are as follows:

  • proficiency in legal research, writing and analysis
  • using computer-based research tools
  • learning court rules and procedures
  • drafting legal documents
  • understanding corporate transactions
  • interviewing clients
  • discovery, and preparing for trial.

This program contains a secondary policy for admission and retentions.

Furthermore, it has the approval of the American Bar Association (ABA), considered to be the gold standard for paralegal programs. It has available both the Bachelor of Science and second bachelor degrees. Transfer students are welcomed in the program which has articulation agreements with several community colleges. Paralegal students from Eastern Michigan University assist the public with court forms at courthouses through the country's only attorney-supervised legal clinic.
