Paralegals, or legal assistants, fulfill a wide range of positions in the legal profession and are employed in law offices.

Paralegals may find themselves involved with activities such as

• factual investigation
• legal research
• and the drafting of documents.

Paralegals need a strong background in legal matters to assist supervising lawyers, in which courses are offered by Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM). It is among just three universities located in Minnesota that have a four-year paralegal degree program.

Reports from local attorneys and occupational resources indicate a preferential trend of employers to hire paralegals who have a four-year comprehensive education.
