North Hennepin Community College

Pursue a career as a paralegal

Students are prepared to provide effective legal services to the community through assisting lawyers and law-related occupational administrators. The program includes general education, law, and legal specialty courses.

Areas included in the specialty courses which are the core of the program are:

  • legal research and writing
  • domestic relations
  • evidence and investigation
  • property
  • wills and estate administration
  • business organizations
  • and litigation

The general education and law-related courses should be completed before enrolling in the specialty courses. The college offers most paralegal classes at night. Classes get students ready to pursue a career as a paralegal and give those who are already working as paralegals a chance to increase their knowledge of the law and skills. Graduates are not trained by the Paralegal program for providing legal services directly to the public. Without a license to practice law, it is illegal and unauthorized to provide legal services directly to the public.

This program has achieved accreditation by the American Bar Association. Those students who already have an Associates degree or better will only have to successfully complete the paralegal specialty courses in order to apply for a paralegal certificate.
