The American Bar Association defines a paralegal or legal assistant as somebody that is qualified by means of education, work experience or training retained or employed to carry out substantive legal duties for which an attorney is normally responsible. A paralegal normally finds such employment with a government agency, corporation, law firm or even with an individual lawyer . However, a paralegal cannot directly charge fees from clients for legal work, and may not provide legal advice or representation in a court of law. The paralegal program provided by Cumberland County College has been approved by the American Bar Aassociation.

On Graduation:

The purpose of the program is to enable students to transfer to universities and four year colleges as juniors, and our students have obtained bachelor degrees and postgraduate degrees from all New Jjersey colleges, and a large number of universities and colleges throughout the USA. Cumberland has arranged transfer agreements with many four year universities and colleges.
