Enroll at Middlesex County College Paralegal Program

You have two options when you major as a Paralegal, also known as a Legal Assistant: you can earn the Associate of Applied Science, thus preparing yourself for work in the legal departments of corporate bodies, law firms, title companies, government agencies and state and federal courts. You can also earn the certificate of Achievement if you already have an A.S., A.A.S., A.A., B.A. or B.S degree. You can also earn the technical certificate if you have worked in what is one of the most rapidly expanding careers in the country, as a paralegal, full time for three years and also possess one of these degrees.

There are several objectives for students taking the paralegal program:

  • The provision of a highly flexible program providing a high standard of education for the paralegal capable of taking up a full time occupation
  • The provision of a program of paralegal education the enables graduates to obtain employment as a legal assistant with a wide range of employers in all areas of law
  • The provision of students with a good overall education founded on a good mix of theoretical and practical courses in general and legal education, with emphasis on reasoning and understanding as opposed to simple rote memorizing of facts
  • The provision of a program of education that conforms to the requirements of the State of Nnew Jjersey, and provides a contribution to the advancement of the status of legal professionals
  • The provision of a program of study that teaches respect for the law and the legal profession, and also its fundamental structure, institutions and pursuit for justice
  • To provide fairness and equality in the opportunities offered by the educational program, without segregation or discrimination for any reason, including race, creed, color, sex or national origin, and to provide excellence in education for paralegals to enable them to provide a high quality personal service to the legal profession, allowing economy through serving a greater number of persons
  • To uphold the tenets of general professional conduct and responsibility, and ethical legal practice regarding the prohibition of unauthorized persons and non-lawyers practicing law
