Become a paralegal specialist at Navajo Technical College

The Legal Assistant course has been designed to train students in the legal knowledge and specialized office skills required to work in a law office under the supervision of a qualified lawyer. The courses are practical and operate on 'how to' format, teaching students how the legal system works, teaching the specialist skills needed for work in law firms and also the ethics of the paralegal's profession, and that they are not permitted to practice law, to charge fees for legal services or to represent clients. Legal assistants work within the federal, state and tribal judicial and legal systems. The program for the Legal Assistant Associate of Applied Science degree combines the Law Advocate and the Professional Assistant programs to provide courses that provide student with skills in both areas. At least 50% of the course work needed for this degree must be carried out at the Navajo Technical College.
