Gain a successful career in the paralegal field

Approved by the American Bar Association, the Paralegal program offers the advantage of being taught by attorneys who themselves have a background of paralegal work, and who therefore understand your problems and how to overcome them. Paralegals are employed under the supervision of a qualified layer in both public and private legal office environments. Typical employers would be government agencies, law firms, corporate legal departments and any other entity with the need for legal departments or services.

Interboro provides access to online legal research facilities and Moot Court competitions to provide experience in actual court situations. The program focuses on the practical, providing the student not only with an emphasis on legal analysis and writing, but also the other practical skills needed in a legal office environment. The course also includes business studies and a broad education in the liberal arts.

Successful graduates will receive the degree of Associate in Occupational Studies, majoring in Paralegal Studies. The graduate is therefore ready for immediate paralegal employment, or may opt to remain in education with the objective of a bachelorķs degree in a 4-year college or university, and a background of legal studies which can be invaluable for success in a law school.

Program Objectives and Goals

The American Association of Paralegal Education has described a paralegal as performing ģ substantive and procedural legal work as authorized by law. . .ī and goes on to describe this work as that which would have to be performed by attorney in the absence of the paralegal. It is the knowledge of law that paralegals have gained through their education and study, including the internships or work experience offered by most colleges, that qualifies them for this work. Paralegals are not permitted to practice law as such, or charge fees, and must adhere to the agreed ethics of the profession in addition to rules of professional conduct.
