Enroll at Durham Technical Community College

Durham Technical Community College has developed a Paralegal Technology program considered by the North Carolina State Bar to be a "qualified paralegal studies program". All students admitted in this program will work under a lawyerís supervision and will assist them in several legal tasks.

The paralegals (legal assistants) can perform legal actions only if they are supervised by an attorney or supervise legal office personnel. They can perform all the functions that don't require a law license.

This Paralegal Technology program includes general subjects (English, accounting psychology) along with specialized legal courses (torts, real property, criminal law and procedure, contracts, legal research, corporations and partnerships, family law and real estate transactions).

The courses are held at the Durham and Orange County Courthouses.

After completing the courses, the graduates will be able to perform a wide range of legal services only under direct supervision of an attorney. They can search real estate titles, probate estates, prepare pleadings for trial, perform legal research, handle real estate closings and manage law offices. Any paralegal graduate can find a good job in a law firm, corporation or even government agency.

Once the program is completed, the graduates will receive an Associate in Applied Science degree that will qualify students to take the Paralegal Certification Exam, organized by the North Carolina State Bar.

If you' re interested, you can enroll in day, evening or online classes for five semesters. If you want, you can even opt for a Business Law and Civil Litigation certificate.
