Halifax Community College

Halifax's paralefal program

Halifax Paralegal Technology curriculum is 100% net-based. The courses are licensed by North Carolina Attorneys and are taught online during a 3 Year Associate in Applied Science Program.

The Paralegal Technology curriculum is teaching you how to be a good paralegal and work under the constant supervision of attorneys.

It is prohibited for a paralegal to practice law, offer legal advices or represent clients on your own in a court of law. But, day after day, the paralegals (legal assistants) are assuming more and more tasks or even perform many tasks as lawyers.

The courses include substantive and procedural legal knowledge in the areas of real estate, civil litigation, family law, legal research and writing, estates, trusts, wills and commercial law. You will also follow some general subjects such as English, mathematics and computer utilization.

The students will learn how to assist lawyers in probate work, public records search, investigations, research, drafting and filing legal documents and office management. After completing the courses you will be able to work in private law firms, banks, governmental agencies, insurance agencies and business organizations.

Halifax's program is ensuring that HCC graduates will be able to sign up for the Certification Exam and become certified paralegals.
