Surry Community College paralegal technology program
Students that go through the Paralegal Technology curriculum will learn how to work while supervised by an attorney, while doing legal tasks that are routine, as well as substantive legal work. They aren't allowed to give legal advice, practice law or represent clients in a law court.
Part of the course work also includes procedural and substantive legal knowledge, in areas such as real estate, civil litigation, wills, trusts, estates, family law, legal writing and research and commercial law.
Part of the courses are also computer use, mathematics and English. They learn how to help lawyers with investigations, probate work, drafting and filing documents, office management and public records search. They will find work in governmental agencies, law firms, insurance agencies, banks and other businesses.
