Harrisburg Area Community College-Harrisburg
At Harrisburg Area Community College, students are learning how to assist law attorneys in several law-related occupations.
The Career Associate program is approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) and is available at Harrisburg Campus and Lancaster Campus. The later hosts many of the courses but in order to complete the degree you must take a few classes at Harrisburg.
As you may already know, legal assistants are prohibited from offering services directly to the public, except as permitted by law.
After completing this program, the students can find jobs in private, corporate and governmental law practices, title insurance companies or can work as assistants in law libraries.
During the courses you will learn to research and prepare legal briefs and memoranda while using the computer. You will be able to draft and prepare complaints, motions, answers and many other litigation documents along with legal documents related to estates, bankruptcy, domestic relations and real estate law. You will be thought how to perform administrative tasks in a legal office and write and speak using the correct legal terminology.
In order to get into this certificate program you will need a program coordinator review of an official college transcript with 30 credit hours of ABA approved general education college courses.
Once completed the course you can work side by side with a lawyer in a private law firm, corporate and governmental law practice.
You will need to attend at least three semesters in order to complete the certificate program.
